 Through-Jan 19 - Downtown on Ice - Los Angeles
Outdoor skating rink among LA's skyscrapers. Free events include concerts, Holiday Festival, skating exhibitions. Pershing Square.

Through-Jan 1 - Holiday of Lights - Del Mar
You can drive through a 1.5 mile route around Del Mar racetrack to see more than 400 lighted and animated holiday scenes. Del Mar fairgraounds. www.holidayoflights.com  Event cancelled for 2014 due to construction.
Through-Jan 4 - Festival of Lights - Riverside
Millions of lights and animated characters on display. Ice Skating rink and vendors. Mission Inn, 3649 Mission Inn Ave Riverside, California 92501 (951) 784-0300

Through-Jan 29 - Ice at Santa Monica - Santa Monica
Large outdoor seasonal ice-skating rink plus smaller rink for kids.  Fifth Street and Arizona Ave.

Through-Dec 26 - Christmas Tree Holiday Train - Fillmore
Families can ride with Santa to a Christmas aTree farm to select and cut their tree. Weekends only. Fillmore & Western Railway.  See Facebook page for hours.

Through Febuary  -  Salton Sea
Salton Sea can be great for birds as they migrate to warmer locations. Both Brown and White Pelicans come here. Check out the Sonny Bono National Wildlife Refuge for large flocks for birds in their ponds. Best time is now through January. The refuge winters up to 30,000 snow, Ross's, and Canada geese, and 60,000 ducks from November through February. Marsh birds and shorebirds account for more than 6,000,000 use-days each year. Endangered species observed on the refuge include the southern bald eagle, peregrine falcon, California brown pelican, Yuma clapper rail, and desert pupfish. http://www.fws.gov/refuges/profiles/index.cfm?id=81631

Dec 6 - Pearl Harbor Day Troop Train - Los Angeles
Journey back to the 1940's aboard a vintage steamliner railway car with reenactors in military and civilian attire.  Union Station to

Dec 6-7 - Indio International Tamale Festival - Indio
Contests for best Tamale and eating contest.  Parade, live music, food vendors, carnival rides and games.  Old Town Indio.  www.tamalefestival.net

Dec 12-14 - Winter Gathering Powwow - Coachella

Dec 13 - Holiday Boat Parade - Marina del Rey
Evening boat parade and fireworks. Main Channel 5:50 PM.  Popular viewing locations:  Burton Chance Park and Fisherman's Village.

 Dec 12-13 - Christmas in the Village - La Mesa
The village is transformed into a Victorian wonderland with strolling minstrels, parade, carolers and street performers. Horse drawn carrages, bonfires and carnaval rides and Santa! La Mesa Village, 7830 La Mesa Blvd. www.lmvma.com 5pm-10pm

Dec 13 - Naples Islands Holiday Boat Parade - Long Beach
Gondolas and festively decorated small and lare boats cruise the canals of Napels Island and Alamitos Bay.

Dec 26 - Port of San Diego Balloon Parade - San Diego
