Through Nov 7 - Spider Pavilion - Los Angeles
Hundreds of free roaming spiders. Enclosed habitat, sounds similar to a butterfly exhibit. Natural History Museum, 900 Exposition Blvd. in LA. www.nhm.com Our one-of-a-kind Spider Pavilion is a beautifully landscaped area on the Museum’s South Lawn where spiders freely spin their spectacular webs for all to see. Tickets are sold in half-hour intervals throughout the day at a rate of $3 for adults, $2 for students and seniors, and $1 for children. Museum Members receive free admission. Tickets can be purchased at any Museum admissions desk or at the Spider Pavilion itself. The Pavilion is open every day of the week from 10 am to 5 pm, with the last tickets sold at 4:30 pm.

Oct 2 - Green Port Fest - Long Beach
This sounds like an interesting photo oppertunity, The Port of Long Beach has an annual open house which includes behind the scenes boat tours of the working harbor, train tours of the cargo shipping terminals. See towering gantry cranes, barking sea lions and massive cargo ships on one of our 45-minute boat tours. Boats depart every 15 minutes from the docks next to the Queen Mary. Shuttles will take passengers from the Port's Administration Building, near the festival, to the docks.
There will be a limited amount of free parking at the Long Beach Convention Center, so please carpool. If you are coming from the 710 South Freeway, be sure to use the "Downtown" exit. Enter the convention center parking lot at Shoreline Drive and South Linden Avenue and look for our Green Port Fest shuttles. www.polb.com/portfest

Oct 24 - Wings Wheels Rotors Expo - Los Alamitos
9 AM - 4 PM. WWRE 2010 is an open house and family event sponsored by the Los Alamitos Area Chamber of Commerce and the California National Guards Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB) All the activities will take place on the flightline on Los Alamitos Army Airfield. On display will be military aircraft,helicopters ,many cars,warbirds along with public safety,first responder and military equipment .Aircraft flyovers are planned including aircraft static displays.
Wings Wheels & Rotors will have various civilian and public safety helicopters with fire,police and military rotorcraft including some of the media aircraft seen daily on the air around SoCal. Along with the airplanes and warbirds are helicopter flights in civilian "choppers" for a small fee and free flights in general aviation airplanes by the Experimental Aircraft Association Young Eagles for youth between the ages of 8 and 17 years who are interested in flying and aviation. The largest event will be a huge car show including custom cars,new autos,motorcycles,roadsters, antique vehicles and hot rods. Awards to be presented for best cars. There will be many events for the family at WWRE 2010 along with a Kids Korner. Additionally,there will be food,including breakfast,music,vendors,displays,demonstrations,flybys and other activities on Sunday,24 October.

Oct 23-24 - Pyrate Days - Yucca valley

Our 7th Western Heritage Weekend will take place October 23 & 24 from *10:00am - 3:00pm. Festival hours are 9:00am - 6:00pm. Admission is $10.00 and children under 2 are free. Underwood Family Farms welcomes back Spencer/Lorraine Productions' fast paced variety show, Western Music, Magic & Mirth. The entire weekend will be filled with stunt ropers, western music, cowboy poetry and even an old-time medicine show. Oct 23-24 - Gunfight Behind The Jersey Lilly - Corona/Norco
Put on by The Cowboys, www.thecowboys.org. They are the oldest and largest Cowboy Action Shooting Club in the world. They meet monthly for matches, wear authenic western gear. This event is free and has a lot to offer for the photographer. Last year we went and got a lot of cowboy pics, Indian dancers and we were able to take pictures of the shooting competition. Nov 6 - Veterans Day Celebration - Riverside

Nov 6-7 - Pow Wow - Santa Fe Springs
Location at Heritage Park, 121000 Mora Ave, Santa Fe Springs. The two-day event, which will feature American Indian dancing, arts, crafts and food begins at 10 AM each day and runs until 10 PM on Saturday and 6 PM on Sunday. In addition to contests and inter-tribal dancing, there will be Gourd dancing and the Grand Entry at 1:30 Saturday and Sunday. Bring the family and friends for this BIG event.
Native foods such as Navajo tacos, fry bread and Indian burgers will be on sale at the event, and American Indian vendors will be selling both traditional and contemporary American Indian art. Plenty of free parking in the surrounding Industrial Park lots.
